When a tear takes place in the outer ring allowing the soft tissue of a disc to bulge out, it is known as a herniated or slipped disc. Inflammation may result in the area as well as pain. Treatments for a herniated disc, tear, protrusion or bulge often consist of anti-inflammatory medication to alleviate pain and swelling.

Normally, a protruding disc can lead to herniated discs.

Prolapsed, slipped disc, ruptured disc, protruding or bulging disc, black disc, degenerative disc disease, disc degeneration, disc disease, pinched nerve, sciatia, bulging disc and disc protrusion are all terms used to described a herniated disc.

In general, the neck and lower back region are more likely to have herniations. Of the two, the lower back is more susceptible. Signs of the condition are pain in the toes, foot, buttocks, thighs, back and legs. Tingling, numbness or burning feelings may be felt in the legs, feet and hip region as well.

Disc herniations are common for people in their thirties or forties. At this point, the nucleus is still a gel like substance. As a person ages, the gel dries out and one factor for herniation is elemintated.

Cervical herniations occur in the neck and can cause pain in the neck, scapula, skull, shoulder girdle, hand, shoulder and arm.

Herniations in the thoracic discs rarely occur because of stability. However, the symptoms are like those from neck and back herniations.

Having a job that requires prolonged sitting or lifting can cause this condition. Traumatic injury to the discs in the back is mostly caused by not lifting items correctly. Back fatigue or chronic pain is a sign of the normal wear and tear on the back that increases the likelihood of injuring a disc. Rounding of the spine causes an uneven distribution of pressure whereas a straight spine equalizes internal pressure.

Ruling out conditions such as lesions that occupy space, metastases, tumors, degeneration and spondylolisthesis through certain testing may be necessary. Normally a diagnosis may be given based on a physical exam, signs and history.

Procedures that may be used to rule out or confirm injury include x-ray, CAT scan, MRI, myelogram, and EMG/NCS.

Most of these conditions will heal by themselves within six weeks without surgery.

If pain persists, anti-inflammatory treatment may be prescribed. They should not be used for long term treatment. Steroid injections into the back can also be an option because of the short term pain relief. Physical therapy may also be recommended in combination with other treatments.

Doctors may also place you on bed rest, recommend massage or physical therapy, chiropractic treatment and weight management.

Surgery should be a last resort treatment.

It’s heeee-rrrrre. The package arrived today. It only took a few days, but to me it seemed like ages! I’m not known for my patience. Now I can stop trying to figure out the rules and oral HCG protocol on my own and actually get the real stuff directly from the included handbook. What a relief. Apparently the only oral HCG protocol regarding the drops is that you don’t eat or drink for 15 minutes before or after you take it. You take it three times per day and you hold it under your tongue for 15 seconds each time you take it. I figure that’s pretty easy and straightforward.

I also got the B-Total Sublingual. It’s described on the bottle as a Vitamin Supplement. It also says “Get the B12 Boost” and it calls it Energy Liquid Solutions. It all sounds fabulous. Would you like some liquid energy? Yes! Would you like some vitamins? Yes! Would you like a B12 Boost? Well, yes…boosts are always good. The basic instructions for this product in accordance with the oral HCG protocol is very simple. You shake it well. You take it once a day (one full dropper under your tongue). And you hold it under your tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing.

I thought it was interesting that in addition to the daily use suggested on the bottle it says, “In addition, use under periods of stress or prior to physical activity, if needed.” So that’s good to know. I’ll have to keep in mind. Maybe my little brothers won’t be able to catch me when they force me to play flag football this Thanksgiving. They’ve made it an annual tradition. The entire point of the game is to grab my flags as soon as possible rather than blocking any point making plays. Ugh. But I love them, anyway.

Now that I’m shared with you the beginnings of my “package is here” frenzy I’m off to dive in to the oral HCG protocol that was included. I can’t wait to get all the rules straight in my head so I can quit worrying about it. Watch for more info tomorrow in Article 11!

1. Working out every day is best. I strongly recommend NOT working out every day. This will leave you burned out, unable to get sleep and absolutely dreading the whole process. Your muscles and nervous system need rest in order to progress.

2. Something is wrong if one arm is stronger than the other. Nothing could be further from the truth, this is perfectly normal. Over time, this discrepancy will begin to fade. Just make sure that you do unilateral movements.

3. I should be able to do 15 repetitions for every set in very workout. This will surely lead to arm toning failure! There are no cookie cutter rules here. In fact, you should strive to experiment with a wide variety of repetitions for maximum effect.

4. You should never get tired when working out. This is not true. And expect to get extra tired whenever you are breaking a personal best. The only time you should stop is if you start feeling queasy or sick. Otherwise keep on pushing through so that you get maximum benefit from your workouts.

5. Something is wrong since I’m sore 2-3 days after working out. This is perfectly normal and it’s called delayed onset of muscle soreness. In fact, this is a positive sign since it indicates that you had a tough workout. And it will decrease as your diet improves and your recovery abilities improve.

Be wary of all the misinformation out there. Make sure that the information you are digesting is not coming from a questionable source. After all, unlearning something can be harder than learning something new. And if you want to tone up those arms, take action today!
