If you don’t want to Quit Smoking, don’t even bother trying. Nobody can tell you the dangers and make your ears open up and listen to reason, if you don’t want to quit. Your desire to quit must come absolutely first, or nothing on this earth will work.

When you want to do something, it comes easier. Nothing is easy in this life, but when you don’t want to do something, it becomes almost impossible to do. So, the first step must be a desire to do this.

Your desire to quit must be as deep as the ocean. It has to come from the bottom of your heart. When that feeling absolutely, without a doubt, really exists, you will put out your last cigarette. If the desire is anything less, don’t expect to quit any time soon.

Have you made a list of why you shouldn’t smoke anymore? Not that it matters. It never will matter, if you just love doing it. But you should have it, anyway. None of your friends smoke anymore. The room full of smoke is uncomfortable, makes it hard to breathe, and it smells. Your girlfriend won’t kiss you, because of your smoke breath. There are so many other reasons, as well.

None of these reasons are important enough for you to stop smoking. You have to want to with all your soul. You won’t live to see your grandkids? So what? You have to breathe through a tube? You’ll have to wear an oxygen tank? No matter. You have to want to quit, and that’s all there is to it.

Hypnosis will not help you. The patch will be useless, and, in fact, dangerous, because you’ll end up smoking with it on. The gum won’t help, either. You know why.

Part of the reason you love to smoke is that you have something to do with your hands. Everyone knows that isn’t a good enough reason to kill yourself. But it is a fact. Part of the most difficult thing to get used to when you are quitting is what to do with your hands. You feel very safe holding a cigarette. You have something to inhale, as you converse with others. It gives so many parts of you things to do, like your fingers, your hands, your mouth, your lungs, and your lips. It is a part of your expression, and it is a part of you.

Once your desire to quit comes directly from the heart, you will quit. You are only smoking for one real reason, anyway. You want to. When that stops, because of whatever personal reason comes along, you will quit smoking. And you will be astonished at how very simple it all was, when you look at the big picture.

During the course of providing curative CDs I researched the differentiation in how left and right-handed listeners pick up sounds of particular frequencies when listening through earphones. My suspicions were proved correct when a study by a psychology master revealed that, indeed, there was a difference in how left and right-handed listeners picked up on sound.

A study published in the ‘Journal of Experimental Psychology’ has shown that left-handers actually think differently and goes so far as to suggest that handedness may influence left-handers’ decisions on everything. This is why I provide instructions to reverse the headphones if you are left-handed when listening to any of my motivational audios.

Using an ensemble as an example off how we hear certain pitches, just take a look at how all or most of the musicians playing high-pitched instruments are located to the left-hand side if you view them from the audience side. Could there be method in this set-up? Well, the rest of the musicians benefit from this because from where they are positioned they will certainly hear the highest pitches in great detail. These greater pitched sounds are coming into their right ears with a crisp clarity. However, the leader conducting the ensemble receives those pitches from their right-hand side, putting them at a disadvantage.

An in-depth study of right-handers has shown that they have a right-ear advantage, the durations of hearing for the right and left ears were compared for 81 right and 45 left-handed high school students. The 1991 ‘Previc hypothesis’ supported that right-handers have a right-ear advantage and left-handedness was found to be associated with a left-ear advantage. This explains why it is important to use headphones accordingly when listening to therapy-based CDs that need to be used in conjunction with headphones.

There was found to be a significant connection in the results to substantiate that people with right hand dominance had a definite affinity with their right ears, as did left-handed people with their left ears. This test concluded that the choice of dominant hand was interrelated to regularity of the acoustic sensitivity. Even when each ear of a left-handed listener was played sound to at varied lengths of time there was nothing to show that the right ear was taking over dominance at any point.

To do a quick test to see which of your hands is the dominant one, it might help you to use what is called the ‘Edinburgh Handedness Inventory’. This test is simple, just tick a few boxes and the results can be worked out in minutes. This is available from the link in the author box at the end of this article. You will find this to be beneficial for deciding which might be your dominant ear when you use certain audio CDs that are of a therapeutic nature.

Just because you are right-handed does not mean you are dominant in right-sidedness! As much as you have a primary hand, you also have a primary eye, leg and foot, etc! Not all of these are interrelated to the same side of your body. You may use a tennis racket with your right hand but use your left boot as the primary kicker when playing soccer. Studies of undergraduates found that they associate upbeat thoughts with their primary side and downbeat thoughts with their secondary side.

The male of the human species is more prone to having dominant use of their left hand than the lady of the species. Just because a child’s mother and father are both left-handed does not mean they will be, as there is only a 1 in 4 chance of this being the case. Apparently in the last 80 years there have been 7 left-handed US presidents, Barack Obama being one of them!

What can you do to overcome the problem of having to keep putting your headphone set on the reverse way round if you are left-handed? Well you if your headphones are connected to your computer via cables you can swap them around so that left source goes to right ear and vice versa. Some sound cards and receivers allow you to electronically swap the source.

Try switching your headset when listening to different audios, whatever feels good for you is fine. There are, at times, no hard and fast rules. There is no real left/right brain way to determine what is right for you. Something worth noting though is, you may not have this ’switched’ brain activity just because you are a left-hander.

Left-handed utensils and tools have come on a long way since everything was ‘right-handed’. Now you can even get a left-handed pen, tape-measures, corkscrews, scissors and much more. What is interesting is that you can get a boomerang for left-handers, but left-handed headsets are more difficult to come by! Roughly 10 percent of the world’s population are left-handed. That’s an awful lot of left-handed people from the 7 billion world population! Maybe the electronics industry will take note.

Your subconscious thoughts determine almost everything in your mind. In order to build a positive mind, you need positive statements. You can create positive subconscious thoughts by consistently repeating positive statements. These statements are positive affirmations.

These positive thoughts, once instated, will reinforce the new positive inner-image you have of yourself. You will be replacing old negative thinking with new positive thinking and doing it at a subconscious level. This will give you access to all the positive energy you have within yourself. This will help you create a new positive reality.

You need to really feel the emotions while using positive affirmations. Experience each emotion fully. In your mind, you must believe that each affirmation is a fact and is true. If you follow these guidelines, your positive changes will happen more quickly.

The first 30 days are usually the make or break when it comes to positive affirmations. It takes about 21 days to make a change in your mental image, for some it may be longer. I suggest 30 to be safe. Writing them down until you know them by heart is a good way to start. If you are using them as frequently as you should, it will not take long.

Positive affirmations can be used during personal time in the bathroom, getting ready in the morning, washing your hands, brushing your teeth, before each meal or going to sleep at night. Try to create a time of day good for you, which you will remember each and everyday. Create a trigger, for example, an alarm, using the washroom, brushing your teeth, etc. You can do anything you can think of. I used to tape mine above my bed, in my mirrors, on my refrigerator door, across from the toilet…you name it.

Another thing that will help you change your thought patterns more quickly is to continually remove all negative thoughts you experience daily. If you allow negative thought to dominate, your positive affirmations will not make any progress. As soon as you notice a negative thought, eject it.

It is normal in the beginning to have negative thoughts, and it will take a few days to become conscious of them when they actually happen. What you will find is that in the beginning, after a few hours, you will realize that you are thinking negatively. You will be disappointed in yourself, that you didn’t catch it sooner. But don’t be discouraged, you are already moving in a positive direction, because before now, you didn’t even notice you were thinking negatively. Make sense? After a few days, it will only take you moments to realize and before long, you will notice before you even say it or think it.

When you walk into a room and think that people are staring at you, you might want to remember that all people observe the things around them, checking to make sure that everything is all right around themselves before returning to their own lives.

If you are really struggling to obtain your goals then you might want to break them down into smaller segments and work patiently to achieve them. If you set goals that are within reason, you will not need to get stressed finding a way to achieve your target.

It is vital to treat yourself each day. Learn some relaxation responses that will benefit both your mind and your body. If you feel overwhelmed, you might want to take deep breaths ten times.

Stretching out on a sofa to watch your favourite film can benefit your mind and body, if you want to destress. Learn to concentrate on what you are doing instead of fretting about what you are not doing. This often clears the mind and allows you to relax.
