Dating is all about getting to know someone; warts and all. I much prefer that someone shows me their honest imperfections than falsified flawlessness. To that end, there are first impression blunders people make that you should just forget about.

They’re late

Chronic tardiness is annoying and, depending on how punctual you are and how much it bothers you, can totally be grounds for ceasing dating someone; after awhile. Don’t immediately bash a dude because he’s 20 minutes late for your first date. It might actually be a specific one-time situation. You always want to make sure something is truly a habit before you go in for the dump.

Chatty Cathy or Silent Stewart

Someone who talks too much or just not enough on a first date is likely suffering from a severe case of nerves. Most of us reach back to our 6-year-old conversation skills when we’re with someone who makes us nervous. Of course there’s no guarantee that things will improve, but on the first date, take someone’s chatter or lack thereof as a compliment.

You want to make your date a tad nervous. Let’s just hope that it wasn’t too painful to sit through dinner having to either do all the listening or all the talking. If you can see the charm and attraction underneath all the nerves then that warrants a second date. Hopefully the second time around their nerves will have quieted and their true personality will shine through.

Calling you another name

Some people get really bothered by this one and honestly, I don’t really get it. I mean, superficially, sure, I can see being offended. But it doesn’t take more than an ounce of reasonable, un-self-conscious thinking to realize that it’s not a personal offence.

When someone doesn’t really know you yet, that’s just the thing: they don’t know you. Maybe he/she momentarily thought that your hair color was just like their friend Sally’s and in the next second, they called you Sally by mistake. These are names that are programmed into their brains already. Your name is not. Not yet, at least. If someone calls out someone else’s name in bed after 6 months of dating, that’s one thing. A slip on the first date? A little funny and completely forgivable.

Drinking too much

Yes, I’ve done this and yes, he never called me again. Sigh. I’m intelligent, charming and witty and he held it against me. I’m not an alcoholic, I was just incredibly nervous.

But he jumped to conclusions on the first date. There are just times that I need a drink (or five) to take the edge off; let it go already. The thing is, if your date is going to get stupidly drunk in public every time you go out then you’ll learn that soon enough. But everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Depression and anxiety are said to be the causes of uncontrolled anger. When a person is constantly worried about problems they have no control over or even problems they do have control over, it often results in depression. If you feel that, there is no hope then your depression can affect your life and cause you to drift down into a spiral of despair.

Taking control of your emotions often produces good results. If you feel that the world is tumbling down around you, then you are probably thinking in a negative way, which instigates depression and anxiety. Why not go to see your doctor or a mental health expert to learn more about the symptoms and find a way to gain control of your life. Anxiety and depression can play tricks with your mind and sometimes the thoughts are the result of a lack of chemical balance.

If you think that people think you are going crazy, you may want to remember that most people have their own problems and don’t have time to analyze you as a person. When you walk into a room and think that people are staring at you, you might want to remember that all people observe the things around them, checking to make sure that everything is all right around themselves before returning to their own lives.

If you feel like you cannot take it any longer, pick up your torture stick and walk another mile. When times are difficult, it does not mean it is the end of the world, although sometimes it may seem this way. If you are struggling to pay bills, fighting to hold a family together, or having difficulty with your children then remember we all have these problems at some time in our lives.

Are your children driving you bonkers? If they are, take a break. Go and do something entertaining or some exercise. This very often relieves the stresses that lead to anxiety, depression and anger. Life is just too short to worry about the things in life that you cannot change. If you have problems, the answers lie within you, so it pays to look into your head.

If you are really struggling to obtain your goals then you might want to break them down into smaller segments and work patiently to achieve them. If you set goals that are within reason, you will not need to get stressed finding a way to achieve your target.

It is vital to treat yourself each day. Learn some relaxation responses that will benefit both your mind and your body. If you feel overwhelmed, you might want to take deep breaths ten times.

Stretching out on a sofa to watch your favourite film can benefit your mind and body, if you want to destress. Learn to concentrate on what you are doing instead of fretting about what you are not doing. This often clears the mind and allows you to relax.

If you are subject to sustained anger, you will most likely have difficulties for the remainder of your life unless you learn to take control of your emotions. Remember depression leads to uncontrollable anger.
