It is now firmly established that there is a wide range of heart health benefits to increasing the amount of omega 3 essential fats (DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)) in your diet. One of these important heart benefits, for anyone with high triglycerides, is that increasing your intake of DHA and EPA can help lower triglycerides.

Research shows that over 90 percent of us are deficient in the important essential fatty acids found in fish oil. And research has also confirmed a wide range of heart benefits from remedying that deficiency by including more fish, or fish oil in the form of supplements, in our diet.

Some of the heart benefits of increasing your intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids include a reduction in the risk of arrhythmia, which can lead to fatal heart attack, a reduction in blood pressure and a decrease in the growth rate of plaque in the arteries. But for our purposes today the research also show a decrease in triglycerides levels.

Triglycerides are a fat that is found in your blood and which your body manufactures from the food that you eat. High triglycerides increases the risk of death and are basically linked to coronary artery disease. High triglycerides can also be linked to other diseases like diabetes.

By eating a diet with a high level of saturated fat and sugar you may be contributing to higher than normal triglyceride levels. And other risk factors are being overweight and excess alcohol consumption.

So it would seem clear that lowering triglycerides, if you have a problem with a higher than normal triglyceride level, is a good thing.

There’s a range of things that you can do to help lower triglycerides. If you eat less sugar and saturated fat in your diet, lose weight and reduce your alcohol intake these will all help lower triglycerides.

But now it is also clear that if you increase your intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids found in fish oil that can also be a big part of any strategy for lowering your triglyceride levels.

For example a statement published on the website of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concludes that “omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil decreased serum triglyceride concentrations by 25% to 30%,” and “A dose-response relationship exists between omega-3 fatty acid intake and triglyceride lowering”.

The role of an increase in intake of omega3 essential fatty acids is sufficiently established so that the American Heart Association specifically recommends that patients who need to lower triglycerides take 2 to 4 grams of DHA and EPA every day, as fish oil supplements, under a physicians care.

Many people in our society suffer from higher than recommended triglyceride levels. This then is good news for them, providing them with another weapon in the arsenal to help lower triglycerides.

And as well as lowering triglycerides there are other heart benefits as well as a wide range of other health benefits from increasing your intake of omega 3 fats by way of fish oil supplementation.

Of course you can eat more fish but fish is generally contaminated with mercury and can be extremely expensive. The best fish oil supplements are not contaminated and are much more cost-effective to be taken daily, though not all fish oil supplements are as good as others.

I take Omega 3 capsules every day. To find out which ones I consider to be the best visit my website.

The benefits of omega 3 essential fatty acids are now becoming firmly established. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), the 2 most important Omega 3 fatty acids are primarily found in fish oil. Allergies are now considered to be one of the health conditions that may benefit from an increased intake of essential Omega 3 fats found in fish oil.

Some allergies are caused by inflammation and it is well known that the essential fatty acids known as Omega 3 fats are excellent anti-inflammatories. 2 examples of inflammatory allergies are asthma and hayfever. For example asthma causes inflammation of the airway leading to a restriction of the breathing and so it would seem that anything that reduce this inflammation may well be very beneficial to asthma sufferers.

It now looks like there is a fish oil allergies link. There are studies suggesting that using fish oil for allergies can be beneficial to allergy sufferers.

Which allergies are most benefited by an increased intake of omega 3 fats is still primarily unknown and much work needs to be done. However there is preliminary evidence that hayfever and asthma as well as possibly some food allergies may well be reduced in intensity by increasing the intake of Omega3 fats.

This is not to say that if you suffer from allergies and cure your condition by taking fish oil supplements. There are excellent diagnoses and treatments for many allergies and these should be pursued as normal. However there is growing evidence that an increase supplementation of the diet with omega 3 fatty acids found primarily in fish oil can be useful as overall part of an allergy strategy.

Fish itself can cause allergies. If you have allergies, including food allergies, it is very important to establish the cause of the allergy before commencing any supplementation.

There is clear evidence that the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids extend to a wide range of health conditions, including some which can potentially cause death. This includes heart attacks and strokes and for this reason the American Heart Association recommends a minimum intake of fish oil for each of us every week. The easiest and most cost-effective way to make this happen through taking top quality Omega 3 fish oil capsules.

More studies are urgently needed to establish clearly an omega 3 allergies link. If the studies do show this to be the case then allergy relief is just one more of the health benefits of omega-3 supplementation.

If you have allergies then it is well worth taking Omega 3 capsules to see if these help your condition. Even if they do not there are other powerful health reasons for daily supplementation fish oil capsules and you ought be supplementing your diet with omega 3 fats for these health reasons anyway.

The sales of Omega 3 capsules have increased faster in the last 10 years than any nutritional supplement in history and you can see why. With organisations like the American Heart Association telling us that we should be increasing our daily intake of Omega3 fats many of us are taking notice. Studies show that over 90 percent of us have too little omega 3 fats in our diet.

Allergies are only one of the very many health conditions that may, or clearly will, respond to an increase in omega 3 in our diet. There are clear health reasons for everyone to be taking Omega 3 supplements.
