Lori and Tara were both annoyed by the tirade the skinny woman was giving on TV. It must have been the tenth time she explained how to lose tummy fat. She was definitely talking down to the viewers. Both women reached for another handful of chips. They planned to start a new diet on Monday.

It was now Tuesday and they had started an exercise and healthy eating plan yesterday. They went out bike riding in the early morning when it was cool. They went swimming in the afternoon at the home of another friend. After an hour in the large pool, they sat sipping iced tea while they chatted.

They chatted about Ruba all the way home. Ruba looked like a movie star in her bikini. She looked almost too skinny. It was always the way they classified other people. Either they were skinny or fat. They considered themselves to be too fat. They spent almost as much time trying to figure out how to reduce tummy fat, as they did snacking.

Lori spent most of her time at work sitting at a desk. She did visit offices of new clients occasionally. However, there was so much work to do on the computer that it kept her chained to the desk. She had heard that people who didn’t get enough sleep were more susceptible to weight gain. She had recently joined an exercise class and it did seem to help her feel better.

Tara worked for a health care facility and had to present a healthy appearance. If she was overweight it would reflect poorly on the job. She did exercise regularly and walked her dog around the block every night. This was fun for her anyways.

The next morning, getting ready for work, Tara looked at her profile in the mirror. Although she understood how to lose weight successfully, she was having a hard time doing it. Her skirt waistbands and slacks waistbands were always a little too tight. These worries continued as she seated herself at her workstation desk at the office.

She decided right then. Tomorrow she would start using that exercise video that was collecting dust on the game system. She’d do some sit ups and lift five pound weights like she used to. Maybe Lori would come over and exercise with her on weekends. She smiled to herself as she contemplated them both being successful on an exercise regimen.

When you go to the grocery store and shop for meat, do you feel pretty safe? Do you look at labels when you do so? Even though at first glance, the packages may look alike, some of them may in fact be unsafe. In fact, some of them may even cause illness or be deadly.

If you’ve been watching the news at all lately, you’ve probably heard people talk about “super bugs.” One of them, MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is particularly virulent. A lesser known culprit is the antibiotics used in many of the meats found on supermarket shelves. This is a more serious one since most of us are not even aware that were are taking them in. When animals are farmed for the purpose of selling their meat, they may be given antibiotics to treat or prevent illness or even aid in growth.

This antibiotic residue is still present even after the meat has gone through processing. Although there are governmental guidelines that have been set up to limit antibiotic levels to levels deemed “safe,” some meat still makes it to market with unsafe levels.

Another cause for concern with meat that contains antibiotics is the potential for illness caused directly by the meat. Animal meat can contain any number of bacteria, not all of which is innocuous. This bacteria can also build a resistance to the antibiotics used on the animals. As a result, the bacteria may live on in the meat. When you eat the meat, it enters your body, where it can make you seriously ill.

It’s also a concern if you eat grocery store meat that any allergies to certain antibiotics will be set off if you unwittingly ingest an antibiotic that’s been used in the meat you are eating. If you have allergies to antibiotics, you should limit your meat consumption to me that’s been produced without the use of antibiotics. Although government agencies do limit how much residue can be left in the meat, you can still have an allergic reaction to an antibiotic in meat if you’re particularly sensitive to even “safe” levels of that antibiotic.

Antibiotic free meat is produced without the use of antibiotics. It is important to understand that while meat is regulated, the use of the antibiotic-free label is not. There is nothing to prevent a meat producer from falsely labeling their product as antibiotic free.

It is not surprising that many people wonder why fad diets are bad when they seem to get results. You will find many sites on the internet claiming significant weight loss in just a few days. The promoters may tell you that the diet is only intended to be followed for a short time. But you probably will not reach your goal weight in that time, and then what? You either continue with a plan that is not good for your health, or stop and probably gain back what you lost.

4. Many fad diets do not help you to incorporate enough servings of fruits and vegetables in your weight loss program, or give you the variety of foods that your body needs.

5. Quick weight loss diets are just a temporary solution and do not help you to make permanent changes to your eating habits. Permanent changes are the only way to remain at your target weight once you reach it. Fad diets encourage yo-yo diet-binge cycles of fast weight loss and equally fast weight gain. This is worse for your health and your self esteem than if you had stayed overweight all the time.

Whatever the publicity materials may say, these diets will not help you in the long term. The best way to sustain weight loss is to eat a varied and healthy diet, do not overeat, exercise regularly and avoid fad diets.
